It has not been an easy task, but it has been very satisfying. Now I work with tourist offices that want to promote destinations, I sell my photos, I give photography classes, in addition to my personalized travel advice, which allows me to continue living from my passions. Of course, the key to everything is to do everything with the heart.
I met Mary a few years ago. Just like her, I love traveling, getting to know new cultures and people. I believe that traveling feeds your soul and gives you that dose of adrenaline you need to continue growing personally and professionally.
I mentioned to Mary my interest in interviewing her and infecting us, through her social networks, with that energy and curiosity to explore new places and put her "heart and soul" into each place she visits with a camera in hand.
How did Mary's travels come about? What prompted you to continue with your project?
I started this project dreaming of wanting to know the world and new cultures. That was how several friends began to write to me: Mary, you like to travel, can you give us tips? Where do you recommend I eat? When you traveled, where did you stay? That's how I started to send them emails with information on each of my trips, I even got together for a coffee and explained step by step what to do. Until I thought... why not share it with everyone? And so it was that more than 9 years ago I started writing this blog to tell my stories and help more people discover new destinations, and now I not only help them with the information I give in my blog, but I design tailor-made trips for each traveler who wants to know a city in Europe or even do a Eurotrip.
Definitely what drives me to continue with my blog and my advice is every email I receive where they thank me, where they tell me a little about their trips and how my posts or my advice have helped them travel alone, in couples or families. and for me, that is the best reward.
You could say that travel and photography is your great passion. However, you were afraid to live from them financially, since it is not a permanent office job as almost everyone has it. Tell us about your experience.
Of course, like everything new, it can cause fear at the beginning when you start a project, but the truth is that as an Interior Architect by profession, although I have worked in several companies whenever I could, I went back to work as an independent because I felt more free with my schedule, managing my times and the truth is that I learned 3 very fundamental pillars to be successful: how to manage my time, organize myself and have discipline and thus I achieved great things as an independent interior architect, so although it was not the same type of work, I knew that the most important thing was to have those 3 pillars so that everything goes smoothly.
It has not been an easy task, but it has been very satisfying. Now I work with tourist offices that want to promote destinations, I sell my photos, I give photography classes, in addition to my personalized travel advice, which allows me to continue living from my passions. For you, when is the best time to undertake?
Personally, I feel that there is no ideal time to undertake, but you do have to learn to be disciplined and have confidence in your work. For example, I was doing very well in a permanent job, I had even been promoted and I really liked what I did but I always felt that the day was spent locked in an office and I was not the owner of my time, so when I was very young I I started to open my first design company and although I had clients and it was not bad at all, I felt that I still needed to have more experience, so I returned to my permanent job, I had better positions, I even became the head of my area in two companies in which I did very well. From there, when I felt more confident, I felt that I already had discipline, I launched myself again into the world of independents and from that time until today I do not regret a single second.
Undertaking comes hand in hand a bit because of the feeling of loneliness. Tell us a bit, how do you handle this issue with Mary's Travels??
Yes, sometimes I would love to have a team or also other entrepreneurs with whom I can share my uncertainties or possible projects, but I think that this place has been well occupied by my parents, whom I always consult about everything and they are always there for me with his best advice and to my husband who has been there to support me in all my projects, from a photography assistant in some large session that I have had or even on press trips in which he has accompanied me to be able to cover everything requested by the tourism offices.
Finally, if you were born again, would you be an entrepreneur? Any advice you can share with us?
Definitely yes. My wings are too big to be locked in one place.
The advice I can give you is that you first learn, not only about your careers, but about what it takes to manage time, be constant, responsible, disciplined, and above all, do everything you set your mind to, from the smallest to the largest. , with all my heart. That for me is the key to success because, even if you stumble, you know you gave everything to do the best and you will only learn from your mistakes, you will not count them as subtractions but as additions.
